A memory

Collage by Şevval.

It hovers between intervals,

like a wisp or smoke unbound,

swirling around the corners of my mouth,

It leaps along the crevices

I cannot reach,

and I swat a moment too late

before it is somewhere

beneath the soles of my feet.

This memory is a tiresome child,

alive with its essence is my heart-

and it beats,

it beats,

it beats.

Zainab is a 24-year-old Qatari bookworm whose sole passion is writing poetry and prose and barely finding the will to get out there to publish the things she writes. She has been writing for as long as she can remember. Zainab’s poetry usually revolves around a singular layer of the human experience, just a little nook that most people overlook. She is inspired by art and music and the feelings people disregard at her doorstep. Zainab hopes to find the courage one day to publish her own poetry book. Somewhere down the road, she probably will. But for now, Zainab is settling for the little steps. Find her on Instagram.
